On day five I wore: Jonathan Saunders dress, AllSaints sweatshirt, Occie plimsolls, Chanel bag, Diane Von Furstenberg sunglasses.

SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER
Having just returned from New York Fashion Week, I delay starting at London until lunchtime show at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The team and I are especially excited about this show, as it is being styled by ELLE Fashion Director Anne-Marie Curtis for the first time. She was up until 4am at the venue casting the final model line-up with the designer, who I have known for many years. The show is a more pared-down version of his usual collections, and we feel this sharp edit allows the beautifully crafted designs to shine through. We gather up AMC (as we call her) backstage afterwards, then – fuelled by Pret coffees and mixed nuts – we hit the road in our Audi for the rest of the day.

Later on, I collect my eldest daughter Sky, 12, and my son Henry, seven, from home to go to the House of Holland show – the invite for which is a vinyl record. This is Henry's first fashion show, and the second time Sky has been (last time, she got herself pictured with Harry Styles and was featured on Channel Five News as a result!). Expectations are high.

I am delighted to see the familiar Henry Holland front-rowers out in force, and to watch the joyous colourful collection. No one leaves a HoH show in a bad mood. The two Henrys meet backstage – one is effervescent and extrovert as usual, the other is mute!

SUNDAY 14 SEPTEMBER
Today is Preen (you will queue for their new s/s 2015 rucksack), Matthew Williamson, (an amazing debut of his sporty aesthetic, which will feature in his new collection with Sweaty Betty next year), Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood Red Label. The day ends with , before which the traffic nearly defeats us and we have to run across Westminster Bridge at speed to make the front row in time. Thank god this is the season of flats and trainers.

MONDAY 15 SEPTEMBER
This is when Fashion Week gets really serious. Roksanda Ilinic delivers the most extraordinarily accomplished collection (her little girl claps enthusiastically as the models stride out), and from then on, the genius keeps on coming. It's one of my best days at London Fashion Week as Editor-in-Chief at ELLE. Erdem and present some of their best collections to date.

At , a ripple of electric awe spreads through the audience in the Tate Modern's Turbine Hall so exquisite is his collection, which is dedicated to the late professor Louise Wilson, his mentor and friend.

Model Daisy Lowe and I catch up afterwards to make a short film for BBC iPlayer (you can see it soon) before I head off to and finally home to provide some crucial support for my 10-year-old daughter Gracie, who has homework that apparently only I can help with.

TUESDAY 16 SEPTEMBER
At Anya Hindmarch's show, the catwalk moves around along with the audience in the manner of a fairground. The models come out in fluorescent tea cups and skeletons dance in the dark. It is an extravaganza, which makes it all the more remarkable that the fabulous bags stand out from all the runway activity. She is a genius who really knows how to put on a show. We are all in awe at this creativity.

My last show of Fashion Week is Simone Rocha's. At St Andrew's Church in Holborn, she once again presents a breathtaking collection. Backstage, I chat to her family and Simone, who is excited and exhausted. I have to head back to ELLE HQ to read copy for our December ELLE – our first ever Feminism Issue – which also includes a 2,000 word interview with Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars on a special ELLE cover (out 30 October – preorder yours here).
It's also a chance to put the final touches to my date with Ruby Tandoh and our fantastic #ELLEBookClub event with her on 7 October, book your tickets here.

I keep a rail of clothes in the office, and I note it's filled with clothes I ordered in advance of a/w 2014. For the first time in 10 years, I won't be going to Milan tomorrow as usual, as I am heading to New York to interview the cover star of the December issue. There is research to do, a book to read, an interview with Diane von Furstenberg to write up and more copy to read. I have only got two days to do this before I head to America!

But my best news of the week is personal: Gracie passed her audition for the school choir!

No. 1 Gracie 10 wears 'audacious' the Nars gift at the Erdem's show, and the sunnies from the Giles show.

No. 2 Knitting? Me? Unlikely. On the front row at Giles Deacon.

No. 3 Roksanda Ilincic with four year old daughter Efimia (photo credit @georgewmacpr).

No. 4 Tea? An EIC in a cup after the Anya Hindmarch show.

Moodboard (left to right): In loving memory of Louise Wilson. Show notes at Christopher Kane; So much graphic colour at LFW - the set for Preen; Outside Burberry in Hyde Park; Backstage at Henry Holland a rail of peacock colours; Simone Rocha, every kind of beautiful in St Andrew's Church in Holborn.

This week, I'm:
Watching… The Great British Bake Off, and was brought to tears by Educating The East End on Channel 4.
Eating… Trebor Soft Mints
Listening… to J-Lo's new album, A.K.A.
